The historic old town of the former Roman and free imperial city of Weißenburg invites you to discover the city. In the Roman town of Weissenburg you can experience the UNESCO World Heritage Raetischer Limes, visit the reconstructed northern gate of the fort Biriciana or admire the famous Weißenburg Roman treasure and the Roman thermal baths. The city's Roman Museum also houses the Central Bavarian Limes Information Center.

The cityscape of Weißenburg's old town is characterized by late medieval half-timbered houses and baroque town houses. Numerous sights - the largely preserved city fortifications with 38 towers, the Imperial City Hall (Old Town Hall) or churches - refer to the imperial heritage:

The Ellinger Tor is the only surviving medieval city gate of the city fortification of Weissenburg. Everything about the history of the formerly free imperial city of Weissenburg is told by the Imperial City Museum.

The city of Weissenburg is dominated by the Hohenzollern fortress Wülzburg and today is one of the best-preserved Renaissance fortresses in the German-speaking world.

A cultural highlight of a special kind is the festival summer at the Bergwaldtheater Weißenburg. Every year from June to August the festival inspires on the urban open-air stage Bergwaldtheater, u.a. with operas, operettas, musicals and spoken theater.
